Futurise!. Photomontage

Photoshop and many more of the applications owned by Adobe are creating new possibilists for photography and digital imagery in general. The ideas of montages and photomontage by artists such as Man ray are possible digitally rather than cutting out hard copies of images to create one image or a photomontage.

The last 10 years has been an exciting time for artists who use Photoshop and Express. Ideas that were once only possible if you had the imagery to work with in the first place to cut out were only possible. However, this is not the case now. Now synthesis exists where images and information is drawn from many places to create an image. There exists abundance in this medium also, as apposed to scarcity or "one off approach" an image can be replicated over and over.

However, he lays the issue. What is real? What is unique? The ideas that underpinned art since The Renaissance are now being challenged with digital artists.. All an "artist" needs to do now to create an image is be able to "hybridization" or have an ability to put things together online.

Photoshop is egalitarian in terms of who can use or access it. No real education or understanding of art history or art theory is required. What is required is imagination and willingness to experiment.

Sessions outcome.

I took a Green Rain image from the internet and used appropriation to create an image which was influenced by my current project which was dystopian futures.

The next image was a virtual wedding where I let my imagination run riot. There is still a theme of dystopian science fiction within the image.

I have been using Adobe Express but tonight, I used Photoshop by using the quick selection tool and the move tool. Then, I went around the sides of the images with the healing brush. The result is a dystopian vision.
